The number of U.S. visitors to Mexico recorded an increase of 6% in the first five months of the year, according to information from the U.S. Commerce Department.
This, according to the latest data from the Office of Travel and Tourism Industry (OTTI) from the Department of Commerce of the United States, Mexico has become the most visited country by Americans in the world, capturing a total of 2,689,518 U.S. citizens in the period January to May 2013.
In the same period, total U.S. international tourists by air, grew 1%, which means that American tourism traveled to Mexico increased at a rate six times higher than the total of American tourists out to various destinations worldwide.
The U.S. Commerce Department also reported in that period that Mexico’s participation in tourism airway was 17.9% higher than the recorded during the same period of the last four years.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, tourism to Mexico grew at a much higher rate than that recorded to other regions of the world: for example, in Canada increased 2%, to Central and South America rose 2.1%, while tourism to Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, decreased 2%, 0.8% and 0.3%, respectively.
Seeking to end years of acrimony, the European Union has made concessions to the United States to try to gain support for global rules on airline emissions.
Under the arrangement, the European Union would pare back its regulations, applying them only to its own airspace. The original plan, which the United States and other countries rejected, would have imposed charges for emissions over an airline’s entire route if the flight began or ended in Europe.
Even though it was just signed into law by President Barack Obama last year, the Pilot’s Bill of Rights (PBR) is already being targeted for improvement by members of Congress and aviation advocates around the country.
The PBR lays out in federal code the rights of flightcrews under investigation by the FAA. Those rights include access to all FAA – and FAA contractor – data used by the agency to build an enforcement case against them, as well as the right of crewmembers to decline requests for information from FAA inspectors.
The FAA on Aug. 26 issued a final policy on the application of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations to aircraft flight attendants. The document makes clear that all Part 91 and Part 135 operations that use at least one cabin crewmember are covered by the policy.
