Frequently Asked Questions

For flights in Latin America, key permits include overflight permits (for transiting airspace without landing), landing permits (for arrivals), and operating permits (for charters or cargo operations). These are typically required for private non-revenue, charter, and non-scheduled commercial flights, especially for foreign-registered aircraft. In countries like Panama, permits apply to both landings and overflights. Special permits may be needed for diplomatic, military, or ferry flights. ASMCORP specializes in securing these efficiently across Mexico, Central America, Cuba, and beyond, ensuring compliance with local Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs).

Processing times vary by country and flight type. In Mexico, permits are typically approved in 24-48 hours for standard requests, with validity up to +24 hours from the requested schedule. Cuba requires a minimum 48-hour lead time for overflights, though expedited options can reduce this to 6 hours for short-notice or 1 hour for urgent cases. In Central America (e.g., Panama or Caribbean regions), lead times are often 3 business days for charters. ASMCORP’s regional expertise can accelerate approvals by up to 30%, with 24/7 support for short-notice needs.

Standard documents include the aircraft’s airworthiness certificate, registration certificate, insurance policy, noise certificate, radio license, and air operator certificate (AOC) for charters. Pilot licenses, medical certificates, flight schedules, entry/exit points, ATC routes, passenger/crew manifests, and maintenance logs are also essential. For Mexico, additional items like FAA OST 4507 forms or Mexican Indefinite Blanket Permits (IBP) may apply. ASMCORP assists in compiling and submitting these to ensure fast, compliant approvals.

Fees depend on the country and aircraft details. Mexico calculates based on wingspan and distance flown. Cuba charges permit and navigation fees, with round-trip permits valid for flights within 7 days. Chile assesses fees based on weight and route, doubling for pure overflights. Argentina and Brazil have no overflight fees and often no permit requirement for general aviation. ASMCORP provides transparent cost estimates and handles payments to minimize expenses.

A BOE is a U.S. CBP exemption allowing certain general aviation aircraft to bypass the first designated U.S. Airport of Entry when returning from south of the 30th parallel (Eastern U.S.) or 33rd parallel (Western U.S.), such as from Mexico, Central America, or the Caribbean. It’s free, applied via eAPIS, and processed in up to 30 days. Needed for inbound U.S. flights from Latin America to overfly initial ports; not required for Canada arrivals. ASMCORP can advise on BOE integration with your Latin American permits.

Valid passports are mandatory for all passengers and crew, often requiring at least 6 months’ validity from entry date. Declarations (e.g., CBP 6059B forms) must cover goods, with special rules for pets, firearms, or high-value items. Visas or entry forms may apply depending on nationality and country (e.g., Yellow Fever vaccination certificate for Bolivia). ASMCORP coordinates with local authorities for smooth CIQ processing

For Mexico’s ramp checks (e.g., the 2025 Summer Program from July 14 to September 5), prepare original documents like airworthiness and registration certificates, insurance (stating private/charter use), pilot licenses, medical certificates, noise certificates, and logbooks. AOC, FAA OST 4507, and IBP (if held) are also recommended. Inspections aim to prevent cabotage and ensure compliance; ASMCORP’s ground handling supports preparation and on-site assistance.
